A message from our Chief Executive

Culture Perth & Kinross -

Below is a message from our Chief Executive, Helen Smout.

Hello

I hope you and your families are keeping safe and well.

On the 17th March 2020, we made the difficult decision to close all our Libraries, Archives and Museums in the interests of public safety and suspended all our events until further notice. Since then we’ve been determined to keep those services we can offer online as accessible to as many people as possible. We have invested in additional content and e-lending resources, waived all library fines and extended current library loan periods indefinitely.

We’ve also been actively engaging with you all online, via our social media and through the website, and I am pleased to see that so many of you are enjoying that content.

Can you consider supporting us and become a Book Hero?

Culture Perth and Kinross is a registered charity. As such, and to cover the costs of providing services which receive more than 600,000 visits each year, we must fundraise on an ongoing basis.

We do this by running events, workshops and talks, hiring out our venues and running our café at the AK Bell Library. We are also grateful for the kind donations we receive from customers when they come into our venues.

The income we raise this way goes directly into the running of our services across the region, allowing us to reach out to the furthermost communities and most vulnerable individuals.

With our venues closed to the public, we are no longer able to generate income, impacting on the budgets and resources we have available for these services.

I would like to ask if you could consider becoming a Book Hero by making a donation to help ensure we have an exciting and diverse range of books and resources available for babies, children, young people and adults to greet their return to our venues when that becomes possible.

I appreciate that not everyone is able to give and that there will be many calls for your help and assistance. By becoming a Book Hero you will be supporting your community and your local library in a unique and meaningful way.

We would love it if Book Heroes could donate the cost of one book. The average cost of a new book is £7.00 and each book can be issued up to 30 times in our libraries.

By supporting us you would help to ensure the best possible range of books and resources are available for the many people who use our services across the region when we reopen our doors.

Book Heroes can have their name added to our Heroes Book, or they can choose to remain anonymous.

All of us at Culture Perth and Kinross really value any support you can give.

If you wish to donate, please do so by clicking this link.

Even if you are not able to make a donation, we still value your continued support and look forward to welcoming you back into our venues as soon as it is possible. We miss you!

In the meantime, and if you haven’t already, please do have a look at our online digital library and other resources which remain free to access. You can even join for free online and start downloading content today. www.culturepk.org.uk/join-the-library/

With very best wishes to you and your families,

Helen
