A pilot project from the UK’s only UNESCO City of Craft, supporting local makers and breathing new life into the city centre
Perth, the UK’s first and only UNESCO City of Craft, is proud to announce the launch of the Make Room, an initiative inviting craft makers from across Perth & Kinross to take ona free 4-12 week lease of a fully equipped city‑centre creative space.
Make Room is a new pilot initiative designed to support makers while exploring innovative uses for vacant shop units. Successful applicants will gain free access to a flexible, public‑facing unit that can be used as a retail shop, working studio, gallery, workshop venue, meeting room, office, or collaborative space.
This pilot aims to energise Perth’s creative sector, strengthen the visibility of local talent, and contribute to a vibrant and culturally active city centre.
Make Room is located at 19 Princes Street, Perth.
The very first pop up in the Make Room, HARDWEAR, launches on Saturday 30 May 2026!
HARDWEAR is a collective duo by Aileen Sherry of Ayton Clothing, and Kristina Merchant of Kmercht Jewellery, coming together to combine two craft disciplines, highlighting the use of metal in their design processes.
Ayton Clothing features individually hand printed, bio washed cotton dresses and linen tops. Kmercht Jewellery produces hand carved amber jewellery inspired by pub culture.
“We are delighted to have been selected as the first tenants in Make Room, as part of Perth UNESCO City of Craft’s programme, right here in Perth City Centre. Our aim is to connect people, inspire creativity, and highlight tactile collaborative making.” – Aileen Sherry and Kristina Merchant.
