New Trustees appointed to Board of Culture Perth and Kinross

Culture Perth and Kinross is delighted to announce the appointment of Asif Khan, Kathryn Thomson, and Reyahn King to its Board of Trustees.

Their expertise includes marketing and engagement, business development, and financial planning in the museum, library and wider cultural sector.. The three new members will join the cultural trust, responsible for the delivery and development of archive, library, museum and gallery services in Perth & Kinross, from 1st March.

Charles Kinnoull, Chair of Culture Perth and Kinross said: “We are delighted to welcome Asif, Kathryn, and Reyahn to our Board. Our three new trustees are extremely committed to the work we do, and we look forward to working with them at an exciting time for Culture Perth and Kinross. They are each recognised land accomplished leaders in their field and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in the cultural and heritage sectors adding considerable strength in these areas to our Board”.

Asif Khan

Asif Khan is currently the Director of the Scottish Poetry Library, having joined the organisation in June 2016. With a professional background in business development, marketing and engagement, he has worked across many cultural platforms including public libraries, performing arts venues and art galleries.

Asif Khan is an associate of the Cultural Leadership Programme, and was previously the Engagement Manager for Bristol Libraries, with a particular interest in widening participation and social inclusion.

Asif said: “It is an honour to serve on the Board of Culture Perth and Kinross. Increasingly, the arts and heritage sectors are recognised as supporting public policy areas such as health and wellbeing, lifelong learning and tackling social exclusion. I have been impressed by the ongoing development of venues, collections and outreach services produced by the Trust to engage with these themes.”

Kathryn Thomson

Kathryn Thomson has been Chief Executive of National Museums Northern Ireland since March 2016.  Prior to that, she was Chief Operating Officer at Tourism NI for 11 years.

Kathryn has a background in public sector finance and holds a public appointment as a Director of the Strategic Investment Board Ltd.  She also sits on the Boards of both Tourism Ireland and Visit Belfast.

Kathryn Thomson said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to join the Board of Culture Perth & Kinross at this exciting time.  I look forward to supporting the organisation as it develops and delivers its ambitious plans for the opening of a new museum in the former city hall in the next few years”.

Reyahn King

Reyahn King became Chief Executive of York Museums Trust in 2015 and is responsible for the strategic leadership of the Trust and its trading subsidiary. York Museums Trust includes three museum venues: York Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum and York Art Gallery as well as 2 scheduled ancient monuments and York Museum Gardens.

Reyahn joined York Museums Trust from the Heritage Lottery Fund where she had been Head of HLF West Midlands and was previously Director of Art Galleries at National Museums Liverpool. Reyahn began her career as a curator of art at Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery.

Reyahn is a Fellow of the Museums Association and a Clore Fellow.

Reyahn King said: “I am delighted to be joining the Board of Culture Perth and Kinross’ at an exciting time for the organisation. Having significant experience in the museums and heritage sector, I hope to bring useful knowledge to the role. I am really looking forward to getting to know the area better as well as the organisation itself.”

The first meeting of the Board with its new members will take place in Perth in April 2020.
