Cives Grati! is a new video work made by Morwenna Kearsley during a year-long residency at Perth Museum and Art Gallery. It reflects on the labyrinthine spaces of the museum’s collection and questions structures within the museum in relation to narrative, photography, memory and touch. Foregrounding this is the historical context of David Morrison’s architectural design and the enduring legacy of TH Marshall on the “grateful citizens” of Perth.

The film coincides with the Women of the World Festival which celebrates the achievements of women and girls globally, and spotlights the challenges that many of them face today.

After the screening of the film Morwenna Kearsley will be joined by guest speaker, Debi Banerjee, for a discussion about the film and the experience of working with the museum’s collection. Debi works as Visiting Lecturer at Glasgow School of Art and is currently the Curator for Learning at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop.

The title of the film, CIVES GRATI! comes from the Latin inscription at the top of the T.H. Marshall Monument outside Perth Museum and Art Gallery, George Street, Perth, and translates as ‘grateful citizens’.
