Following the success of moving their popular annual Summer Design Market online to become the Digital Design Market, Perthshire Creates and Culture Perth and Kinross have decided to do it all again this November.
The creative platform has once again collaborated with designers from across the region, and Jon Gill of Playful Communications, to launch their first-ever Online Christmas Design Market.
The online event launches at 6 pm on Thursday 26 November and runs until 6 pm on Sunday 29 November showcasing the work of local makers, artists, and designers.
The festive event will provide an opportunity for makers to showcase their original artwork including gifts, homewares, and accessories to a worldwide audience. There has been a brilliant response to the call-out and over 60 artists and makers have been selected to take part, including 13 new makers who will be joining the line-up of artists.
Artists will showcase their work in several different mediums including jewellery, prints and etchings, ceramics, wall art, textiles, candles, illustration, upcycled creations, photography, cards, glassworks, mosaics, papercraft, and woodwork. Participating artists will have an exclusive offer available during the Online Christmas Design Market. These include discounts, free postage and packaging, and free gifts with purchases.
Whilst current restrictions may limit shoppers from meeting the artists and designers in person, they will be creating short videos introducing themselves and showcasing their work and making process.
Support for the event will once again be provided by award-winning Tayside filmmaker, Jon Gill of Playful Communications. Participating artists learned to shoot and edit their short films, entirely on their phone or tablet, via an exclusive webinar.
The #MadeOnAMobile films will be shared via social media and the Perthshire Creates website.
The Online Christmas Design Market will take place on the Perthshire Creates website as well as on Facebook and Instagram between 27-29 November, with a launch video being posted on at 6 pm on 26 November. The Design Market will direct visitors to the artists own websites and selling platform so you can liaise and buy directly with the artist as you would at one of our in-person events.
Caron Ironside, Project Officer for Perthshire Creates, said:
“Buying local and handmade has always been at the core of our annual Design Markets and the Christmas event is a much anticipated and enjoyable calendar date.
2020 has highlighted how shopping locally can support incredible talent throughout our region, and we hope that everyone continues to enjoy shopping directly from local creatives online.”
