Perth Museum and Art Gallery will mark the anniversary of Dewar’s in Perth by embarking on an ambitious project to collect the memories and experiences of former Dewar’s staff.

As part of the new project Blended Memories: Celebrating 175 years of Dewar’s, a dedicated exhibition space in the Museum has been created for people to come along and share their stories of working at Dewar’s.

Through a series of photographs, models, uniforms, equipment and memorabilia, visitors, young and old, will be invited to reminisce about the local company, which grew from a small wine and spirits merchant shop in Perth founded by John Dewar, to become an iconic global brand.

Contributions will become part of an important archive of social and community-focused history, enabling future generations to be inspired by an industry that influenced the city’s identity.

With restrictions relaxing, there are many options individuals can choose when sharing memories with the Museum. Visitors can chat with museum staff through a socially distanced conversation, phone call, or by popping into the Museum during opening hours. All memories are welcome. If you have items related to your time with Dewar’s, such as pictures or newspaper articles, the Museum would also like to add these to the exhibition display so that the content evolves over the coming weeks with more rich and personal stories of the business and the people who worked there.

Robin Patel, the Communities Curator, who is leading on the project, can be contacted directly by phone on 01738 783 414 /  07815 312 562 or via email at [email protected]

Blended Memories: Celebrating 175 years of Dewar’s opens on 29th May at Perth Museum and Art Gallery. Admission is free.
