A host of local designers and artists will gather this Saturday at Perthshire Creates’ first Summer Design Market.
The event, which takes place on June 23 at Perth’s Civic Hall, will allow local makers to showcase their products, and lets the public shop some unique gifts. It follows on from the successful Christmas Design Markets from Perthshire Creates.
Among the artists taking part is Crieff resident Aimee Morris, a student at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, whose work is also being showcased at the Royal Academy of Arts’ 250th Summer Exhibition in London.
Aimee was chosen to take part in the Summer Design Market after Perthshire Creates reached out to recent graduates and students coming to the end of their courses, as part of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018.
Aimee works across a variety of mediums, from pencils and papers to ceramics. She will be selling a range of handmade ceramic plates, bowls and mugs – all fully functional as well as being display pieces.
Other participants include:
· Kate McLaughlin, who uses her architectural background to create bold and simple sterling silver jewellery collections;
· Perthshire Horseshoe Signs, combining blacksmithing and computer design to produce creations of metal and wood;
· Contemporary jewellery designer Jenna McDonald, who captures the colours of Scotland with her statement pieces;
· Ceri White, who produces richly patterned, contemporary ceramics from a workshop in rural Perthshire;
· Sarah Halliday, who specializes in original fine art on canvas and silk, producing prints, silk scarves, cushions and stationery.
Thirty designers and artists will take part in the free event, which runs from 10am to 4.30pm. They are from Crieff, Scone, Blairgowrie, Coupar Angus and beyond.
Caron Ironside, events coordinator for Perthshire Creates, said:
“After the success of our annual Christmas Design Market, we are excited to be running our first summer one. This is an opportunity for people to shop some phenomenal products, witness some excellent creations, and of course meet the artists and designers in person.”
