Get ready to travel back in time to the age of the Vikings this summer as Perth Museum and Art Gallery launches a new exhibition exploring the day-to-day lives of the formidable Norse warriors from thousands of years ago. Vikings: Fearsome Craftsmen is a touring exhibition from the creators of the world-famous Jorvik Viking Centre in York.

While Vikings are most famous for their ferocity as warriors on the sea, this not-to-be-missed interactive exhibition will introduce visitors to other side of Viking life, where they were skilled craftsmen using only natural materials to build whatever they needed, from combs made of bone to shoes and belts made from animal hides.

Offering an Ideal family experience this summer, visitors, young and old, can explore a 15ft replica Viking fishing boat and see an ancient excavated Viking skeleton up close. Visitors will also be able to visit a replica Viking house and experience what it was like to be a Viking Blacksmith.

Recently shortlisted as Britain’s most family friendly museum in the 2018 Family Friendly Museum Awards, the only one in Scotland to make the shortlist which is based on public feedback, Perth Museum and Art Gallery are urging people of all ages locally and across Scotland to seize the opportunity to experience this hit summer event while it is north of the border. Helen Smout, Chief Executive of Culture Perth and Kinross, said:

Running from July 7 – September 23, 2018, Vikings: Fearsome Craftsmen is the latest in a series of hugely successful and popular exhibits from Perth Museum and Art Gallery including the ground-breaking Picts and Pixels last summer, which married our Pictish past with the latest in gaming and digital technology, and Brick City in spring 2017 which celebrated the world’s most iconic buildings with LEGO.
